Head of the Market Trends Valuation Center, Valentas Gružauskas defended his dissertation “Supply Chain Resilience in the Context of a Sustainable Food Industry” in Kaunas University of Technology in 2020. His thesis was awarded by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in 2021 (http://www.lma.lt/nugaletojai). The dissertation was prepared in the field of computational social simulations, in which the city logistics simulation was realized. One of the key aspects of applicability of the research is the proposed route planning approach to allow efficient delivery of food directly to consumers based on autonomous vehicles. These research results were presented at the prestigious European Operations Research Conference and published in the world’s best sustainable development journal, “Journal of Cleaner Production” [1], [2].

Computational social simulations

With the rapid development of technology in the world, there is an increasing focus on social aspects as well, because the center of everything is human. Computational social simulations allow the analysis of the link between business processes and technologies. Methodologically, this approach is called “agent-based modeling,” which allows you to measure when a process takes place between individual agents and analyzes the consequences of these relationships over a long period of time at the macro level. One of the classic examples of the applicability of these accesses is the formation of settlements in America. The simulation was realized using a simple rule – a person would move to live elsewhere if more than 30% of the surrounding population is of another nationality. This simple individual-level rule in the long run shows how the distribution of cultural groups and cities is formed.

Applicability in the real estate sector

Computational social simulations can be used to analyze complex processes, such as real estate market analysis, urban development, etc. In the implementation of this type of simulation the most important thing is to define the processes between individuals. At this point, it is important to strike a balance between complexity and simplicity. If the simulation is realized too simply, then it will not give practical value. If the simulation is realized too complicated, it will be impossible to interpret its results. During COVID-19 crisis such modeling approach become even more important because they can help analyze the development of the virus and its relationship to market changes.

One of the specializations of the Market Trend Valuation Center is the development of mathematical algorithms for valuation of market trends.
